Carissa's Caress Cat Reflexology by Carissa Carter Certified Pet Reflexologist - Auckland, New Zealand I offer a mobile Cat Reflexology service, whereby I visit my clients in their own homes, where they are most comfortable and feel safe. Carissa Certified in Pet Reflexology in December 2019 through Jackie Segers, author of Reflexology for Cats. I am also a professional In-home Cat Sitter - Carissa Cat Caressa, therefore, my clientele are cats, but because my certification is in Pet Reflexology, the principles apply to all pets, so please do enquire and we can discuss your pet's needs. Pet Reflexology is a hands-on therapeutic technique that helps restore the body to a better state of harmony, reduces stress and tension in the body, and promotes deep relaxation. Pet Reflexology works on specific reflex points in the paws, feet, hooves, limbs, face and ears of an animal, which relate to all organs, glands and parts of the body. By applying pressure to the reflexes, using gentle thumb or finger movements, the body can return to a natural state of balance and wellness. Reflexology can be beneficial for a variety of conditions, including stress, tension and neck/shoulder/back pain. Specific techniques help with circulation by encouraging detoxification and lymphatic drainage. Reflexology is safe for most animals, including those with certain health problems. The length of the session and pressure used is tailored to meet the animal client’s needs. Pet Reflexology maybe more suitable to cats who like touch and who are sociable and comfortable around people/visitors. Touch therapies, like Reflexology and Massage, can be cognitive learning processes, so that is why we always start out with shorter sessions and increase from there. I do not use any creams or products on the animal or on my hands during this process. Treatment sessions can leave your pet feeling revitalised in heart, body, mind and spirit. PLEASE NOTE: Whilst reflexology can promote self-healing and relaxation, it is NOT a replacement for Veterinary care. If your pet is unwell, please seek Veterinary advice in the first instance. Your pet may not enjoy Reflexology, and that is okay! If your pet shows any sign of discomfort, anxiety, or resistance, I will discontinue the session. Perhaps this type of therapy may not be right for them on this occasion. |

HOW OFTEN CAN MY PET RECEIVE REFLEXOLOGY?
Sessions may vary on your pet’s willingness and outcome required by the pet’s companion. A recommended frequency could be once every 1-6 weeks, depending on each individual and at the pet companion’s discretion. Reflexology sessions can be carried out on a daily basis for an acute condition and once a week for a chronic or long term condition. The frequency can be extended as wellness levels improve. DURATION OF EACH SESSION A full session involves working all areas of the pet’s body. Each session varies from 30-60 minutes, depending on the pet’s tolerance and wellness. If the pet is in too much pain or discomfort, the treatment will be terminated. WHAT HAPPENS DURING A TREATMENT? As I enter your pet’s space, I will take a moment to introduce myself and let your pet become familiar with my presence. I will conduct a health, diet and lifestyle consult with you and discuss why you want to try Reflexology and I will explain how Reflexology works. With the companion's permission, I will play some gentle music and light a candle to create a tranquil atmosphere. My hope is during this set up time, your cat is starting to feel more relaxed and settled. If the cat is nervous of me, this may take longer. I recommend we choose a time when the cat has just eaten or around its normal resting time. As I create a relaxing ambiance in the room, I lay fresh towels on a surface that is comfortable for your cat. This could be the floor, your bed (if that is your cat's most comfortable sleeping place), a table or couch- whichever suits the client and what is accessible for me to work comfortably on the pet. I start the session by offering a meditation to calm the energy in the room and to create a calm peaceful space for your pet. If my human client is present during the Reflexology session, I will explain my intentions and what I am doing as the session progresses. Peace and quiet is preferable, as it would be for humans receiving a relaxing treatment. But do feel free to ask me questions during the session or make notes to ask at the end. A one-on-one session with your cat during one of my Cat Sitting assignments would be ideal. The treatment will begin with some gentle relaxation techniques. I will apply pressure to each of the reflex points. If the cat is fidgety or alert, we can work around this. As the animal relaxes, I move to various parts of its body, face, ears, limbs and paws. The cat will indicate to me the level of pressure required and tolerated. I do not use any creams or products on the animal or on my hands during this process. During the treatment, your pet may stretch out as it relaxes, go into a deep sleep and/or start to twitch. As I work on your cat, I may experience a tingling sensation in my fingers and feel warmth on various parts of the pet's body. The warmth can be an indicator of inflammation, tension or ailment. If the pet decides the today is not right for them, we can wait for them to settle, or reschedule another visit. After the session, I will make some notes to assist in future appointments. All information recorded will remain totally confidential. I will finish the Reflexology session by offering a closing meditation. I gently remove myself from the pet’s space and ask their companion to do the same. Give your pet some quiet time to allow the body to rest and restore. Some pets feel invigorated after Reflexology and get up straight away and want to play, head to the water bowl (which helps flush toxins from the body) and sometimes they want to eat. Some may want to stay in a deep sleep. There is no set outcome. After the session, I ask the cat's companion to observe their cat over the next week and report any changes they notice in their cat. This will assist me in future treatments. THINGS YOU MAY NOTICE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS AFTER TREATMENT ~ More energy ~ Improved mobility ~ Varying sleep patterns ~ Increase in water intake to flush toxins and impurities from the body ~ Increased urination and bowel movement DO YOU OFFER YOUR SERVICE OUTSIDE OF AUCKLAND?
